Book Week

Book Week is the longest running children's festival in Australia, and it celebrated its 71st year in 2017. Each year, schools and public libraries from all over Australia spend a week celebrating books, Australian authors and illustrators. At St Pius X we celebrate each year with our annual book week parade. Over the years we have enjoyed many character from our favourite books. Here is a taste of our parade for 2017.

Quiz Night Years 4 - 6

The P & F would like to thank all the families who helped make Friday night's Quiz Night a success.  The planning, set up and running of the event was only made possible by the parents and teachers who volunteered to assist.
A special thank you goes to the MC, Paul Cartwright, who was amazing and made it such a fun night for the kids.

New Playground

KINDERGARTEN and pre-primary students at St Pius X Catholic Primary School in Manning are getting back to nature in their new playground.

The playground includes a campfire site and a water feature.

The school’s parents and friends association fundraised throughout last year for the project, which was completed earlier this year.

Principal Daine Burnett said it was all about imaginative play and creating an environment that would foster such behaviour.

“You want to leave play as open-ended as possible,” he said.

Pre-primary teacher Victoria Paino-Povey said the students were excited to use the new play area and the water feature was the most popular.

She said there were so many benefits from using imaginative play as the students grow and learn.

School is music to Sophie's ears

Like most little girls, Sophie Ardagh used to adore dancing around when the credits rolled after a favourite TV show.

Until she was 18 months old, it was one of many things Sophie did that led her parents to believe she was perfectly healthy and normal.

Unknown to them, however, Sophie took her cues visually through watching other children and was in fact born profoundly deaf.
