Psalm 91:11
God will put his angels in charge of you to protect you wherever you go.
The plants breathe out and we breathe in, not noticing the exchange.
And so we walk with angels, seldom noticing the company we keep.
Lord, make me aware of Your presence in my life,
And that of Your angels whom You sent to guide and protect me.
Amen.
A Message from the Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We have steamrolled into Term 3 with lots of exciting events.
Parents Breakfast
It was so lovely to see our beautiful school community gather together in the Undercover Area for our Parents Breakfast last Thursday morning. I hope you had the opportunity to converse with a variety of families and enjoyed your cuppa and pastries. Thank you to our dedicated P&F who made the morning extra fun for our families by setting up a photo booth and games to keep everyone entertained. If you haven’t already done so, check out our photo gallery on our Facebook site https://www.facebook.com/SPXCPS
Spirit of the Arts Mass
Straight after our Parents Breakfast, Mr Hughes, Miss Thomson, Chloe and Fletcher from Year 6 and I attended the Spirit of the Arts Praise and Worship Liturgy at St Mary’s Cathedral. We were treated with a performance by Corpus Christi students who gave us an insight into what is to come during the Spirit of the Arts Festival. The Loreto Choir also graced us with their beautiful singing during the Liturgy. We are looking forward to our St Pius X Choir performing in the upcoming festival. They have been busy practising during before school and lunchtime sessions. Thank you to Mr Nick Dabbs for coordinating the practise sessions and coaching our students.
Basketball Clinics
Our Kindy to Year 3 students have been participating in basketball clinics on Tuesdays. I had the pleasure of joining our Yr 2s during their clinic last week and was very impressed by their attentiveness, dribbling skills and coordination. It will be wonderful to witness our students’ skills evolve of the course of the four-week block. Parents, you might like to pull out the basketball and join your children in a few drills. Mrs Mo kindly uploaded some photos and videos onto our Facebook site so you can have a look at what you’re in for.
First Holy Communion Retreat and Commitment Mass
This Friday, our Year 4s will partake in their First Holy Communion Retreat Day which will be run by 24:7 Youth Ministry. The retreat will consolidate what the students have learnt about Eucharist in class and provide opportunities for reflection on the importance of receiving Christ and nourishing our relationship with God.
On Saturday night, 30th July, our Year 4 students will be attending and participating in the First Holy Communion Commitment Mass. May we keep our Year 4 students in our prayers as they prepare to receive Christ for the first time.
Mac Desktop Computers
We still have some 2014 model Mac Desktop Computers – complete with monitor, keyboard, and mouse – available for purchase. Please see Margaret or Marni in the Office if you are interested in one.
Registration Audit
In Week 4, our school will be undertaking the formal component of our Registration Audit. A selection of parents and students were invited to complete an online survey as part of the audit. Thank you to those of you who were a part of the process and gave up your time to answer the questions. I look forward to seeing the responses and sharing the outcome of our audit with you.
Wishing everyone a spirit filled week,
Melissa Vranjes
Principal

LifeLink Day – 3 August 2022
Life Link is the fundraising and promotional arm which supports and assists the work of social service agencies established by the Archdiocese of Perth. Life Link agencies reach out to more than 34,000 Western Australians in need each year, delivering more than $54 million in professional programs, care and direct assistance. This is a wonderful display of service in our local community that makes a difference to many. This year at the Life link launch, it was mentioned that real life super heroes are those that do this kind of work just as Jesus did.
To show our support as a school, we are asking the students to come on the 3rd of August in a red shirt and bring a gold coin donation. This will be collected by teachers and sent directly to Life Link to support their work. Students will also learn more about Life Link on this day and we will recognise some students who have demonstrated the School Value of Service and ways that they have demonstrated these super hero qualities.

NAIDOC WEEK
NAIDOC Week celebrates the history, cultures and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is celebrated by all Australians and is a great opportunity to learn more about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
The theme this year is:
Getting Up, Standing Up, and Showing Up can take many forms. The NAIDOC 2022 theme – Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up! – was chosen by the National NAIDOC Committee. It recognises the history of getting up, standing up, and showing up – from the Frontier Wars to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities fighting for change today, and the courage not to lose momentum for change.
At St Pius x, children have participated in a range of activities, both class based and whole school. Classes have cooked damper, made art inspired by Indigenous artists, investigated the history of the First Nations people, planted native bush tucker plants, learnt Noongar words and brainstormed how we can Get Up, Stand Up and Show Up. Our NAIDOC whole school display is the culmination of our community effort to continue the conversation of NAIDOC Week.
At the end of last term, our school community gathered to celebrate a NAIDOC Liturgy and listen to songs and words led by the Pre-Primary children.
