Dear Parents and Caregivers,

On Friday, 21 August, we celebrated the Feast of St Pius X, our patron saint. As a school community, this occasion provides us with an opportunity to reflect on the example he set through his deep faith, humility and unwavering commitment to the education and formation of young people.

One quote often attributed to St Pius X reminds us that “In every child’s face, we glimpse the innocence that leads us to God.” As I reflect on this beautiful sentiment, I am reminded how privileged we are to work alongside our families and caregivers in nurturing the hearts, minds and faith of the children entrusted to us. Together, we help our students grow not only in knowledge and understanding, but also in kindness, compassion and their relationship with God. Thank you for the trust you place in us each day as we partner in this important work.

I would like to thank our Year 5 students and Mrs Hay for leading our whole-school Feast Day Liturgy on Tuesday. The reverence, confidence and reflection they demonstrated helped make the celebration a meaningful occasion for our community.

Staff Professional Learning
At St Pius X, we are committed to ongoing learning and growth, ensuring we continue to provide the best possible educational experience for our students.On Friday, our staff participated in professional learning focused on Laudato Si’, Pope Francis’ call to care for our common home. This important document reminds us that caring for creation is not only an environmental responsibility but also a matter of faith, justice and stewardship. Staff reflected on ways we can continue to foster an awareness of sustainability, gratitude and responsibility within our school community as we strive to live out this message in our daily actions.On Monday, staff worked alongside consultants from the Catholic Education Western Australia School Support Team to explore ways of developing curiosity in our students. Through rich discussion and collaborative learning, staff considered strategies to encourage questioning, critical thinking and deeper engagement with learning. Fostering curiosity helps students become active learners who are eager to explore, discover and make meaningful connections with the world around them.These professional learning opportunities reflect our commitment to continually growing as educators so that we can best support the learning, wellbeing and flourishing of every student in our care.

Uniform
As we begin preparing for Term 4, families may wish to check that school uniforms still fit and that all uniform items meet our school requirements. To assist with any upcoming purchases, we encourage parents and caregivers to refer to our Uniform Guidelines, which outline approved uniform items, expectations, and purchasing information.

Students are also participating in a variety of Book Week experiences, including visits to Manning Library and a special incursion. We had fabulous display of characters at our annual Book Week Parade on Wednesday, 26 August, and our Three-Year-Old Kindy will have their Dress-Up Day on Monday, 31 August.

It has been wonderful to see such enthusiasm for books and storytelling across our school. Fostering a love of reading is one of the greatest gifts we can give our children, and it is wonderful to see this being celebrated so enthusiastically throughout our community.

Sacrament of Confirmation
This Sunday, 30 August, eighteen children from our school and parish community will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.

As they continue their faith journey, we give thanks to God for the many gifts they bring to our school and parish communities. We ask that you keep these children and their families in your prayers as they celebrate this special milestone in their faith journey.

After School Clubs
Thank you to the many parents and caregivers who support our after-school clubs. I also extend sincere thanks to our teachers, whose time, enthusiasm and dedication make these opportunities possible for our students. Your support in ensuring children are collected promptly via the Ley St entrance at 4:00pm at the conclusion of each session is greatly appreciated and helps each club run smoothly for everyone.

We are incredibly proud to see our students and our little school so well represented within the wider community. These opportunities allow students to develop confidence, creativity and a sense of accomplishment and we look forward to continuing our involvement in the Arts in the years ahead.

Sporting Success
Congratulations to our senior students who recently represented St Pius X in the SNAFL competition across Soccer, Netball and AFL. Please see Mr Cooper’s notice below for further information.

St Pius X certainly has talent across many disciplines and we are proud of every student who embraces opportunities to challenge themselves and represent our school with pride.
