and
“To love God and lead good Christian lives”.
Through Faith and Friendship
help us to respect each other.

Bless everyone in our school community.

Amen

A Message from the Acting Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

“And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” Colossians 3:14

I feel blessed to be acting in the role of Principal for the remainder of Term Three while Miss Vranjes is on Long Service Leave. I want to take this opportunity to thank our families for your support, participation, and contributions to the St Pius X School community. Community is the topic that I would like to focus on today in this week’s newsletter. More specifically, community building in action and what is happening here at St Pius X.

On the 28th August, this coming Sunday, we are holding our next Fathering Project event. One of our dads, Michael Cain, was able to collaborate with the Manning Men’s Shed to assist in preparing car kits for us to construct and race. I would like to thank Mike and his wife Shannon, for the time that they have spent making this project a reality. In addition to organising the car kits, they have also collaborated with our local butcher to secure donated sausages for our afternoon tea. This is just an amazing effort and contribution to community building at St Pius X. It is local connections such as those created with local groups and businesses as well as the participation of our wonderful families that makes our school community united and unique.

I would also like to thank all the dads who have participated so far in our events as we continue to grow a sense of community at St Pius X. This Sunday we have confirmed over 40 adults attending along with their children. This indicates very strongly that our community is in great shape. I am inspired to continue building on this.

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am among them.” Matthew 18:20

We anticipate that a small donation from this event will be made to the P & F and to the ongoing growth of the Fathering Project at St Pius X. From a community perspective, it just doesn’t get much better. What I also love about this example of community building is the connections that can be made to our School SEARCH Values. I can make connections to all six, but certainly Service, Authenticity and Relationship are prominent. They are certainly being lived out in this instance and what a real life example for our students to witness.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.” Matthew 25:35

To conclude, I would like to draw your attention to some opportunities for us to gather as a community. It is set to be a busy final half of the Term Three!

Father’s Day Liturgy

On Friday 2nd September, our Year One students will lead us in a Liturgy to celebrate Father’s Day. This will take place at 8:45am in the Under covered Area. Following the Liturgy, our Fathers are invited to take their child to a quiet place around the school to read a story together for 20 minutes prior to heading back for the days learning. Please bring along a book from home for the story reading. We will also have Mr Telfer, Mr Cooper and Mr Hughes on hand to conduct some reading.

St Pius X  Feast Day

The official Feast Day of St Pius X is celebrated on the Sunday 21st August. On Tuesday the 23rd August, we celebrated the Feast Day of our Patron Saint, Saint Pius X with our staff and students. The day started with a Mass led by our Year 6 and Father Patrick. Following this, our students participated in a tour in the life of St Pius X to learn about who he was and what he stood for. The students also participated in a St Pius X colouring in competition which will be judged, and the winner presented on Friday at Assembly. To end off the day, our students watched a short video on the Life of St Pius X, spent some time with their buddies discussing their learning for the day and were each given a delicious St Pius X themed cupcake. This made for a marvellous end to what was a lovely St Pius X Day.

Glorious Pope of the Eucharist, Saint Pius X, you sought “to restore all things in Christ.”

God Bless
Kim Hughes

School News

Absentee and Illness

If your child is going to be absent, please inform the school/class teachers by 8:45am or the night before, if you know. Please email the classroom teacher and cc admin@stpiusx.wa.edu.au or complete the absentee form which is on our website.

This is very important because starting this week, parents will be contacted via SMS (not email) if a student has been marked absent from school and we have had no notification.

It has always been important for children to arrive to school on time but even more so now.

School Fees

Fees for Term 3 are due at the end of August.  Please attend to these at your earliest convenience.  If you are having difficulty with payment please make a time to see our Principal.

We still have a couple of places available if you would like your child to participate in the after-school Art Club. Book Week

Thank you to everyone for making our annual Book Week celebration one to remember. The parade showcased amazing creativity and demonstrated an authentic love of reading. Well done to all of our families for your efforts with organising costumes. Thank you to Miss Thomson and Miss Vranjes for hosting this event and engaging everyone in the parade. A special mention to Mrs DeLuca and Mrs Pitt for your assistance in organising staff costumes. Following the parade, Mr Hughes read us one of the shortlisted books for 2022, STELLARPHANT. This was an engaging book which had some fantastic messages around persistence and chasing your dreams.
