Dear Families and Caregivers,

Palm Sunday and the journey into Holy Week

This weekend we come together as a Church to celebrate Palm Sunday, a significant moment in the Catholic calendar. Palm Sunday commemorates Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem, where he was greeted with palm branches and joyful praise. It marks the beginning of Holy Week, a time that invites us to reflect deeply on Jesus’ journey of love, sacrifice and hope.

As we move into Holy Week next week, families are encouraged to take time for prayer and reflection together, remembering the events of the Last Supper, the crucifixion and ultimately the joy of the resurrection. These days sit at the heart of our faith and offer a powerful opportunity to share our beliefs with our children.

All families and caregivers are warmly invited to join us as we walk with Jesus through the Stations of the Cross. This prayerful reflection will be led by our Year 5 students on Wednesday, 1st April at 9.00am in the undercover area. The Stations of the Cross offer a meaningful opportunity for our community to pause, pray and reflect together during this sacred time.

Parish Family Mass

Sunday’s Parish Family Mass was a wonderful expression of faith and togetherness. It was lovely to see families worshipping together and sharing in this special celebration.

Our students played an important role in the liturgy, confidently contributing through the readings, prayers, offertory procession and choir, enriching the Mass and leading with reverence and joy.

Principal’s Reflection

As we approach the end of the term, I would like to share how grateful I am to be the substantive Principal of this beautiful school community. It has been a privilege to grow in this role alongside such dedicated staff, students, families, caregivers and parishioners.

This term, I have spent time meeting one on one with staff, listening to their stories, learning more about their experiences and gaining a deeper understanding of St Pius X and all that makes our school special. These conversations have been invaluable and have strengthened my appreciation of the commitment and care shown to our students each day.

As we continue to move forward together, I warmly invite parents and caregivers to share their thoughts and feedback by completing this FORM by Wednesday, 1st April. Your voice is important and helps guide our ongoing growth as a learning community.

Extended Absences

From time to time, families may plan extended absences during the school term. When this occurs, acceptance must be sought from the Principal. This is a legal requirement and ensures our attendance records remain accurate and compliant.

If you anticipate an extended absence for your child, please contact the school office via email ahead of time. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Canteen Orders and Absences

Our canteen continues to operate smoothly thanks to families placing lunch orders by 12.00pm the previous day. This advance notice supports efficient planning and preparation.

If your child is unexpectedly absent on a day when they have a canteen order, simply email their class teacher that morning. The canteen order can then be carried over to a day of your choice.

End of Term One

A reminder that the final day for students this term is Wednesday, 1st April. Thursday, 2nd April will be a pupil free day for Parent-Teacher Interviews.

As we prepare for Easter, I wish all families and caregivers a holy and hope filled Easter season, spent with those you love. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for Term 2 on Monday, 20th April.

School Fee Payments Are Now Due

A number of families have not yet made the first instalment towards their tuition statement. We ask that this payment be made before the end of term to avoid follow-up contact from the school.

For families paying via BPAY instalments, please ensure your payments are up to date.

Last week the Year 6 students packed their bags and travelled to Fairbridge Camp in Pinjarra, about an hour south of Perth, for two nights of adventure and challenge. Throughout the camp, students pushed themselves outside their comfort zones and developed valuable skills such as teamwork, problem solving and resilience. These are important skills that will support them as they continue to grow.

When the students first arrived, they unpacked and set up their dorms before enjoying their first meal together, hamburgers, which were a big hit. After settling in students began their first activity, the High Ropes course. This challenging activity required them to climb a series of obstacles high above the ground before finishing with an exciting flying fox. The day ended with tacos for dinner followed by Minute to Win It games as the evening activity.

Day two began bright and early with cereal and a full cooked breakfast including bacon, eggs and hash browns. Students then headed to the pump track where they rode bikes around the course and tackled small jumps. This was followed by rock climbing where students used their strength and problem-solving skills to reach the top of the wall.

After lunch, the Year 6 students took on the Big Swing. In this activity students jumped from a platform and attempted to throw a teddy into a milk crate as they swung through the air. This quickly became the class favourite.

It was an extremely hot day and after spending the morning sweating in the sun on the bikes and climbing wall, a dip in the pool was a a great way to rejuvenate ourselves.

On the final day, students faced one last challenge, the 15 metre abseil. Although many were nervous beforehand, they showed great courage and determination, with some enjoying the experience so much, they chose to do it twice.

Overall, the camp was an incredible experience. Students enjoyed being in a new environment and developed important skills such as teamwork, critical thinking and perseverance. It was wonderful to see them support one another and embrace every challenge along the way.

Hello Students and Caregivers, we have some exciting news from your Sustainability Team.  Our Toy and Book Swap is returning and will be held in Term 2, Week 5 — Thursday, 21 May.

Please start bringing in your pre‑loved toys and books from Weeks 1 to 4 next term. We will have tubs available in the undercover area each morning for drop‑off.

Scholastic Rewards:  Did you know that every purchase you make on Book Club earns our school 15% of the order value in Scholastic Rewards?  We use these to purchase more books and educational resources for the school. It all helps!

The P&F is excited to share that our Easter Raffle tickets are now available to purchase via Flexischools!

We are also still accepting donations until Friday and would greatly appreciate any contributions of Easter eggs or Easter craft items to help us create some fantastic raffle prizes for our community.
